Water microfiltration: systems and maintenance

Water microfiltration: complete systems, filters, cartridges and components

Water microfiltration is a treatment system that uses filters, cartridges and specific components to improve dispensed water quality, retain suspended particles and reduce substances that may affect taste and odor. It is used in residential, professional, Ho.Re.Ca., office, water chiller, sparkling water and under-sink applications.

What water microfiltration means

Treatment without reverse osmosis
Microfiltration is not the same as reverse osmosis. It usually does not use an osmotic membrane, but filters and cartridges that improve water while maintaining simple operation and good flow rate.
Reduction of particles and impurities
Depending on the filter used, microfiltration can retain sediment, sand, rust, suspended particles and substances that affect water taste and odor.
Compact systems
Microfiltration systems can be installed under the sink, connected to water chillers, sparkling water systems, dedicated faucets or professional systems to dispense treated water in a practical way.

Main components

Inline filters
These are compact cartridges installed directly on the water line. They can be used for drinking water, chillers, sparkling water systems and post-filtration.
Bayonet filters
These are quick-change filters, suitable when clean maintenance, fast cartridge replacement and installation on a dedicated or compatible head are required.
Drop-in cartridges
Cartridges for filter housings can be sediment, activated carbon, carbon block, washable or specific cartridges for different treatment needs.
Faucets and fittings
A microfiltration system can include dedicated faucets, tubes, quick-connect fittings, valves, counters and accessories for correct installation and maintenance.

What to check before choosing

Incoming water quality
Before choosing a system, it is useful to evaluate sediment, chlorine, taste, odor, hardness and the condition of the existing installation.
Required flow rate
The filter must provide adequate flow for the application: kitchen, office, water chiller, sparkling water system, bar, restaurant or other professional use.
Maintenance and spare parts
It is important to schedule cartridge replacement and check availability of compatible filters, fittings, tubes, faucets and spare parts.
Helpful tip:
Microfiltration is suitable when the goal is to improve water while maintaining good flow rate and simple maintenance. For different needs, such as stronger reduction of dissolved salts, a reverse osmosis system may be required.
