Calcite is the most common type of natural calcium carbonate (white marble), crushed and sifted.
It is used to neutralize the acidity of water and regulate the pH: acidic water causes the dissolution of calcite, whose properties will be released into the water producing an increase of the pH.
Depending on the pH value and other parameters, over time the calcite will become exhausted and will need to be reintegrated.
Periodic backwashing is necessary to keep the properties and efficiency of calcite.
Before using calcite, it is recommended to lay out a gravel support bed.
